We Practice to co-create environments that effect social change through design-forward thinking. For everyone.

Founded in 1980, Practice (formerly known as Gonzalez Goodale Architects/GGA+) is a Southern California architecture studio that builds upon decades of experience to design Education, Housing, and Civic spaces.
In adopting the name Practice, we put presence, perspective, and possibility into action. Practice embraces our journey of intentional learning, reflective solution-finding, and the tangible application of our beliefs toward improving the world.

With Practice, we seek to continuously evolve toward a vibrant, inclusive future driven by long-term partnerships to create joyous, innovative places that support and unite communities.

We Practice Through...

Co-Creation
to work in partnership with openness, honesty, and transparency for greater impact.
Inclusive Impact
to bring along everyone, not just some.
Holistic Sustainability
to effect social, environmental, and economic good.
Joy
to create spaces where everyone thrives through forward-thinking ideas and design.
Listening
to fuel our culture and design through empathy, curiosity, and research.
Optimism
to innovate design within real-world constraints.

Practice Holistic
Sustainability

We expand sustainability beyond the environment to consider all factors that affect human life, from social to economic. Through both our internal office operations and design of projects, a holistic, human-centered perspective guides our architecture firm's work.

Practice Co-Creation

From community members and clients to contractors, co-creation guides our work. With transparent and collaborative processes, everyone we work with is a true partner. We believe real impact only happens when design engages everyone involved.

Our Team

We build upon inclusion and collaboration to co-create environments that resonate across communities and generations.

Our horizontal culture fosters an environment where everyone learns and grows from each other. Recognizing that people evolve, we invest in professional development and encourage everyone to explore their passions to transform both as individuals and a collective design studio.

Armando L. Gonzalez, FAIA

Founding Principal Emeritus
An entrepreneur at heart with a love for architecture and public service, and with a disarming grace and sense of humor, Armando established the firm in 1980 with a singular focus of providing quality design and architectural services to projects of public benefit. Revered for his forward thinking and integrity, Armando’s leadership is widely recognized as a trusted and capable facilitator and as an impactful thought partner to many of our civic and institutional clients.

Armando’s joy and optimism, his curiosity and love for beauty, his advocacy for youth and diversity, and his dedication to collaboration and  mentorship continue to  infuse Practice’s culture to this day. Armando no longer maintains an active role in the studio, but continues to contribute to the professional community at large and serves as one of 4 founding members of Community Design Group.
