The Canyon County Community Center is located on an 8-acre site on the northeast corner of Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita. The project converted 6 acres of former federal FEMA flood channels into much needed green space and community facilities. Through community engagement and public meetings we were able to identify and prioritize the types of services and amenities desired by the community for inclusion in the design of the park and building.
The park provides a generous program of landscaped space including walking trails, botanical gardens, and a land-formed amphitheater. The community center opens up to connect extensively and ceremoniously to the outdoor space. The community center contains a full gymnasium, four multipurpose rooms, locker rooms, classrooms, and a kitchen for catered events. The architectural style of the building and site draw from the rustic Californian context of both the surrounding land and development.
