Slauson and Wall

Comprehensive Modernization

Responding to over a decade-long conversation between the neighborhood and the city for the re-development of a nearly 8 acre site in South LA, our team’s proposal brings together a long promised public park, community institutions, culture, multi-generational living, and local businesses to create a sustainable urban village focused on wellness. Connecting to the future Rail to River active transportation corridor, the development team, in partnership with a long-standing local community institution, presented an urban vision of varying typologies and mix of uses. These include the Brotherhood Community Center, a new transit retail plaza including a new supermarket, a preventative crisis center for Women and Children, and over 500 units of housing addressing the diversity of the community needs to include seniors experiencing homelessness, workforce, and affordable family housing.  A porous network of public and communal open spaces and paseos provide diverse opportunities for wellness and recreation, and tie the whole of the development to  the heart of the project – the new Beatty Mason Park.
