300 Permanent Supportive Housing Units, Community rooms and Services, Public Park

Our proposal for this 300-unit affordable and permanent supportive housing reinvigorates the existing industrial landscape by creating a model of living that holistically provides a place for people and communities to thrive through a new linear public open space that stitches together disconnected residential communities. This green edge establishes a pedestrian connection to the Civic Center Complex, Rosewood Park and Aquatics Center, providing an extension of amenities and services to support the residents and public at large.

The architecture supports this urban gesture by creating a series of semi-public and private open spaces to animate the public realm while creating an environment of supportive services that connect people and place. The combination of these three open spaces – parks, terraces, and courtyards – create a rich integration of landscape and open space to stitch the urban fabric and the residential development together through an array of spatial conditions of varying scales, level of activity and degrees of public and private.

The 3-story residential program is conceptualized as an urban courtyard block over a 12ft high podium. The massing along Washington Blvd. is inflected to break down the scale of the building, connect to the internal courtyards and create a series of terraces along the southern edge.
