Practice Begins Work on Mayfair Hotel Interim Housing Renovation

Practice has extended its long history of working with the City of Los Angeles; this time on a pivotal project in Mayor Karen Bass’s ‘Inside Safe’ initiative. With the goal of radically increasing the number of units of interim housing that can get Angelenos off the streets immediately, the City has taken the huge step of purchasing the historic 1920’s Mayfair Hotel in the Westlake District.

The firm's housing team will be working directly with the Los Angeles Mayor's Office to adaptively renovate the 15-story hotel to provide 294 units of supportive interim housing where individuals experiencing homelessness can stabilize and recuperate while receiving critical services to put them on a track toward long-term permanent housing.

“We need to do all that we can to get Angelenos off the streets and into temporary housing as fast as possible while permanent housing is still being built. The proposed purchase of the Mayfair is an important step toward that goal. Together, with actions like this, we can sustain our momentum toward confronting the homelessness crisis.” (Mayor Karen Bass)
