The Summit View Apartments project, an Honor Award winner in the AIA-LA Residential Design Awards Affordable Housing category, celebrated a Warm Welcome from Local Leaders and Community as part of its grand opening.
The veteran-focused project provides permanent supportive housing while exemplifying design excellence across site, material, and context. It also demonstrates the important integration of biophilic and trauma-informed design.
The grand opening with partners Many Mansions and LA Family Housing was an opportunity to recognize the massive effort and number of partnerships it took to make this beautiful project a reality. LA Mayor Karen Bass, LA County Supervisor Katherine Barger, LA Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, and many other elected officials were on hand to share their support and reinvigorated commitment to “confront the homelessness crisis head on and to house our most vulnerable.”
New Summit View resident, Donte Aguilar, a U.S. Navy veteran spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Every day, I cook in my own kitchen, take a shower in my own bathroom, and sleep in my own bed. My confidence has gone up. I’m working on rebuilding relationships with friends and family. Thanks to my incredible neighbors and the wonderful staff here at Summit View, I am truly thriving.”
